Everything Has Its Time

Ecclesiastes reminds us that “To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.” As I sit with these words, it dawns on me — God appointed a time for every person to be born, and a time for every person to die. It sounds morbid at first, but strangely, it brings comfort.
My mom passed away last year. The grief is still real, still present, still part of my everyday life. But I have the quiet assurance that her time was appointed. As heartbreaking as it was, it was not random. It was not meaningless. It was not outside of God’s awareness. He did not cause her death, but He allowed it within His wisdom — a wisdom I will never fully understand.
Ecclesiastes also tells us that God’s ways are unsearchable. I won’t understand everything He does or allows. I don’t have to. What I need — what anchors me — is the assurance that God is good and He knows what is best. And He doesn’t just know what’s best; He brings it to pass. He is in control even when life feels out of control.
So when I can’t trace His hand, I choose to trust His heart. Or as another author wrote, I choose to “trust an unknown future to a known God.”
I have enough evidence of God’s goodness to trust Him with what I don’t understand. Do you?
